An Introduction to Digital Image and Video Processing

Digital Image Processing:

The name itself depicts its meaning that the processing of images which are digital in nature.
The world is acquired by the digital images and videos in the modern scenario as the examples of digital images can be seen everywhere these days e.g. Consumer, scientific, Bio-Medical, Industrial and astronomical applications. The most common example of the digital image and video processing is the removal of blur from the images of a moving car.

   Digital Image Processing

Need of Digital Image Processing:

  • ·         Enhancement in the image quality for the human realization.
  • ·         Productive and cost effective transmission and data storage.
  • ·         For assembly autonomous machine applications in the industries.
The digital image processing is a subcategory of the digital signal processing that has various advantages over analog image processing as it allows avoiding the noise and distortion during signal processing.

The video is processed through different video processing techniques and the video processors combines with the video scalers to upgrade the quality of video signals. Video processors are used for the several functionalities in video processing.
Some of these are:

  • ·         Controlling Aspect ratio
  • ·         Brightness/contrast/sharpness adjustments
  • ·         Converting the frame rates
  • ·         Color calibration
  • ·         Noise reduction
  • ·         Edge Improvement

The video processing systems need a stream processing architecture in which the continuous frames of the images can be processed. The video processing becomes very typical for the live streaming because in this type of streaming the frames are to be processed without any delay and thus requires some extra-ordinary processors to process the live videos exclusively.
